Templates will be introduced in a future release

Templates are a way of marking a set of widgets for later reuse to speed creation of future pages. A page may be marked as a template as well as any widget and all of its children (widget hierarchy).

For example, a page may have a summary, an author, and content - each represented by a text widget. If lots of pages should have this information, then it is ideal to create a template that can be used to quickly make new pages.

Create Page Templates

Creating a template can be accomplished by clicking the triangle next to the page that will become the template. Then choose "New Template". Fill in the name and description for the template. Then click "Save".

To find the template, click the triangle for a Space or Page. Then choose "New Page". At the bottom of the "New Page" screen is a section containing Templates. Within this alphabetically sorted list will be the newly added template identified by the name and description provided previously.

Choosing this newly created template will cause a Page to be created containing copies of the original page widgets and their properties at the time the template was created. For example, if the Page had a text widget listing the author, then all pages created from that Template will list that author.

Create Group Templates

Creating a template out of a group of widgets is a similar process. The widgets to group need a common parent or container. A "Grouping Layout" can be used to contain the widgets if the widgets to be grouped do not already have a suitable common container. Once the container for the template has been identified, then follow the same steps as creating a Template from a Page.

To find the template, click the triangle for a Site, Space, or Page. Then choose "New Widget". At the bottom of the "New Widget" screen is a section containing Templates (made from a widget hierarchy as opposed to a Page). This list is also sorted alphabetically and will contain the newly created Template.

Choosing this newly created template will cause the widget group to be added to the current Site, Space, or Page (depending on which the new widget was to be added to).

Editing Templates

Both Page Templates and Group Templates share the same properties. These include a name, description, and a hierarchy of children widgets. Each template has a black triangle next to it indicating that various actions can be taken on the Template. These actions include "Edit", "Delete", "New Widget" and "Summary". Clicking the "Edit" tab brings up the edit menu where the name and description can be changed.
